shape shifters anime??

Hi I've been using the site for a while for new release stuff, but new to the forums. I came to ask about an anime I saw around 1999 or 2000 I'm guessing it was older than that though and it was on vhs I am pretty sure. I just can't seem to remember the name of it.

Anyway the most I remember about it was that there were a bunch of warriors with different abilities to shape shift into various animals/beasts and there were 2 factions of characters fighting over land or something... I know it's not much to go on, but I remember at the time the shape shifting animation looked pretty nice and I figure there are not that many anime with shape shifters

I already checked through imdb but nothing was close... so any help would be nice ^_^ I have seen quite a large variety of anime and may be able to help others as well
